Tattoo Care and Feeding 1. Remove bandage after 2 hours. 2. Immediately wash tattoo with antibacterial soap and warm water. Remove all drying and dry blood by gently lathering soap on tattoo. Use only your finger tips. 3. Apply a very light coat of vitamin A+D ointment. When tattoo begins to dry up, apply another coat of A+D ointment. Keep tattoo soft—avoid cracking and dryness. Continue to apply ointment a few times a day for 4 days. 4. During the first week, wash the tattoo with soapy water at least 2 times a day before re-applying the ointment. You may take a shower, but avoid soaking the tattoo for an extended period of time. Absolutely no chlorinated water for at least 2 weeks (hot tubs, swimming, etc.). 5. After 4 days, switch from the ointment to a good fragrance-free skin lotion such as Lubriderm, Curel, Vaseline Intensive Care, or Suave. Continue with lotion for another 2 weeks. 6. Avoid direct sunlight for at least 1 month. Sunlight is the major cause of fading in tattoos. For the rest of the life of the tattoo, use high SPF sun block.
